Kate Gallin Heffernan
Founded in 2007 by Kate Gallin Heffernan, JD, KGH Advisors LLC provides guidance and solutions at the intersection of law, ethics and medicine.
Kate has over ten years of experience providing advice on issues related to human subjects research, research compliance and misconduct, and other discrete speciality areas to:
- academic medical centers;
- community hospitals;
- physician groups;
- health care and research organizations and foundations;
- IRBs, ESCROs and other ethical oversight boards;
- institutional officials and vice presidents of research;
- researchers; and
- organ procurement organizations
KGH Advisors brings a unique perspective and ability to go beyond the traditional outside counsel role, serving as adjunct in-house counsel to compliment or supplement existing in-house experience. The modest scale of KGH Advisors allows clients to enjoy the quality and sophistication of a larger firm at reasonable rates and with personal service. Clients rely on Kate to bring specialized expertise where needed, as well as shoulder some of the burden of increasingly busy institutional legal departments. Kate's training in medical ethics has given her a nuanced understanding of the challenges organizations face in meeting their obligations, particularly when the law and ethical principles may not align.
Her prior experience advising from both outside and within the institutional setting has given Kate an appreciation of the hurdles health care organizations face not only in analyzing and understanding the complex regulatory scheme in which they pursue their mission, but also in developing and implementing solutions that work.
